Dermamelan Depigmentation Overview
Dermamelan, previously known as amelan, is one of the most effective treatments for melasma and stubborn pigmentation. Dr Krulig, a plastic surgeon, who specialises in skin pigmentation disorders, developed Dermamelan treatment following years of research.
Dermamelan is a de-pigmentation agent that is used to treat the following skin complaints:
- Melasma – Patchy or generalised dark pigmentation of the skin
- Chloasma – Patchy brown or dark brown skin discolouration (normally present on faces of females clients following hormonal changes, pregnancy or the contraceptive pill)
- Lentigo – Small, sharply circumscribed, pigmented spot
- Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation – Excessive skin darkening at places where the skin was inflamed
Dermamelan is also good as it reduces pore size, regulates sebaceous secretion on greasy skins. It improves the sign of photo-ageing and photo-damage.
It keeps the melanogenesis (pigment producing) process in check as the ingredients block the formation of melanin (pigment). During consultation suitability for the use of the product will be assessed, so all make up must be removed.
The treatment is pain free so there should be no discomfort of irritation. You will leave the clinic with the cream mask on. After a specified time you will remove the mask and follow the aftercare instructions.
Demamelan is a very safe product if used correctly, however you should be aware for some people there can be some side effects:
- Skin Redness – The degree of redness will depend on your natural skin colouring and sensitivity to the treatment.
- Skin Tightness – After treatment and the removal of the mask, your skin may feel tight and look slightly swollen.
- Flaking and Peeling – This happens usually during the first week, and some patients may choose to take a few days off work while the exfoliation settles.
During the course of the treatment your skin will build up a tolerance. The mask is generally applied only once, but the home application will continue for several months. Depending on the severity of your pigmentation you should start to see an improvement after 2 – 8 weeks.
One last point, remember to use Hydra Vital Factor K moisturiser and a high factor sunscreen to protect all your good work!
