Behind the Brand: PharmaClinix

Behind the Brand: PharmaClinix

We spoke with PharmaClinix founder, Shashi Gossain, about how she created the incredible brand specifically for Asian, African & other Ethnic skin types. The targeted products are designed to work together for optimum anti-ageing care, protection and treatment of hyperpigmentation, scars, acne & stretch marks.

Q: You have worked in the health and beauty sector for 30 years. Can you tell us about your background and how it led you to creating PharmaClinix?

As a qualified Pharmacist, I completed my dissertation in cosmetic chemistry at University, which led to my interest in skincare. I then used my knowledge on different skin types and their problems. Ethnic skin in particular is susceptible to sun damage, resulting in premature ageing, hyperpigmentation and dark circles under the eyes.I spent many years looking for a safe and effective anti-ageing cream that could be used by all skin types, including the Asian, Mediterranean, and Afro-Caribbean, but nothing measured up! I created the Pharmaclinix Advanced Cosmeceutical range with clinically proven formulations after extensive research with leading cosmetic dermatologists.

Q: How has the company grown in the 8 years since you launched PharmaClinix?

Pharmaclinix has grown into an International brand with offices in Dubai & India and is distributed to over 30 countries now. We distribute through Aesthetic clinics like Face the Future, Pharmacies and online traders.

Q: What is unique about PharmaClinix as opposed to other skincare products on the market?

Pharmaclinix Advanced Cosmeceuticals contain very high strength actives ingredients in a nano-liposomal base, which penetrates the more compact skin layers of darker skin types. The range is particularly developed for Asian, African & other Ethnic skin types.

Q: We regularly treat pigmentation in our skin clinic and customers often ask how is the best way to treat this skin concern. What would you say is the best at-home skin routine to help combat pigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a very common problem in darker skin types as the melanocytes are more numerous & larger in size. Total sun protection is absolutely essential in order to avoid & minimise sun damage.

Pharmaclinix Sun Blockex Max SPF 50, which not only provides complete protection against UVA & UVB rays, but also has skin lighteners to combat the dark patches. For resistant pigmentation, I would recommend Lightenex Gold Cream to be applied at night, and Sun Blockex SPF 50 during the day.

Q: PharmaClinix was created to treat Asian, African & other Ethnic skin types, what are the main skin concerns within this target customer?

Asian, African & other Ethnic skin types particularly suffer from Hyperpigmentation, Acne, Scars & Stretchmarks. Hyperpigmentation, however, is prevalent in various degrees, and becomes very resistant very quickly. It is essential to treat this skin concern with very high concentrations of a complex of active ingredients to act at different stages of melanin production & degradation.

Q: If you had to choose just one, what would be your desert island product of choice from the PharmaClinix range?

Well there's an old saying, “Prevention is better than the cure. It is essential to protect your skin from the sun in order to minimise sun damage, so I would strongly suggest Sun Blockex SPF 50 as the most essential cream in a skincare routine.
