Red Light Therapy Masks & Devices

At-Home Red Light Therapy for Face and Body

Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to help improve the look of your skin. It's gentle and painless, and most sessions take around 10 minutes at home. A hands-free mask is the easiest place to start, while a full-body panel lets you treat much more in one go. The real secret? Using it regularly.

About Red Light Therapy Masks & Devices

How to Choose a Red Light Therapy Device

Start with the area you want to treat. A mask is the most hands-free option for your face, which makes it the easiest to keep up. Handheld devices are better for focusing on smaller areas, and they're easy to take away with you. If you'd like to treat your body too, a panel or blanket covers far more ground in one session. Check the wavelengths as well. Devices that combine red light with near-infrared give you both depths of treatment in one.

Getting the Most From Your Sessions

Treat it like the rest of your skincare routine. Little and often works best, so pick a time of day you can stick to. Use your device on clean skin and finish with your usual serum and moisturiser. For a wider look at what's available, browse all our skincare devices.

Red Light Therapy Masks for Face and Neck

A red light mask is the easiest way to make light therapy a habit. Put it on, set the timer and get on with your evening. Many masks pair red light with near-infrared, which reaches a little deeper into the skin. Others add more colours. The BEAUTYPRO PHOTON, for example, includes blue light for blemish-prone skin. Want something closer to a clinic treatment? Dรฉesse's Pro Express uses the same red and near-infrared mode as its professional mask. Your neck and chest often show signs of ageing before your face does, so BON CHARGE and FOREO FAQ both make flexible masks for that area too.

Red Light Panels for Full-Body Sessions

Want to treat more than your face? A panel covers a much bigger area in one go. BON CHARGE's Demi works on your upper or lower body, while the Max and Super Max give full-body coverage. Each one uses 660nm red and 850nm near-infrared light, together or on their own, with a built-in timer up to 20 minutes. Many people use them after exercise as part of a recovery routine. If you'd like something smaller, FOREO FAQ makes LED panels for face and body, including a foldable dual version.

Red Light Wands and Handheld Devices

Handheld devices let you focus on one area at a time, like around your eyes or along your jawline. The BON CHARGE Red Light Face Wand is the simplest of the lot. There are no buttons, you just glide it over your skin. FOREO FAQ's wands go further, combining red light with radiofrequency to warm deeper layers of skin, and the FAQ 402 pairs red LED with microcurrent for a lifted look. New to devices? The BEAUTYPRO LED Wand is a more affordable way to start.

Expert Tip for Red Light Therapy

"Consistency matters far more than session length. Ten minutes most days will do more for your skin than an hour once a week, and longer sessions don't speed things up. Always start with clean, dry skin so nothing blocks the light. If you want to apply a serum first, choose one made for use with light therapy. Then take a photo in the same spot and the same light before you begin. Changes are gradual, so it's easy to miss them when you see your face every day."

How LED Light Can Improve Your Skin

Red and near-infrared light work differently on your skin, and blue light does another job again. Our guide explains what each one does, so you can pick the right device for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy uses low-level red and near-infrared light to support your skin. The light is absorbed by your skin cells, where it's thought to help them produce more energy. It doesn't heat or burn the skin, and it contains no UV, so it isn't the same as a sunbed. Most at-home devices use red light at around 630 to 660nm, and many add near-infrared at 850nm.

What are the benefits of red light therapy?

For skin, it's mainly used to soften the look of fine lines and improve tone and texture, as research suggests it can support collagen production. Some people use it on their scalp for thicker-looking hair, or on their body after exercise. Results build slowly. If your main concern is thinning hair, have a look at our products for hair loss.

What's the difference between red light and near-infrared light?

Red light is visible and works closer to the surface of your skin. Near-infrared is invisible to the eye and reaches a little deeper. Lots of devices use both, so you get the benefit of each in one session. Don't worry if you can't see the near-infrared LEDs glowing. That's normal.

Does red light therapy work at home?

Yes, as long as you use it regularly. At-home devices are usually lower powered than clinic machines, so it's the steady, repeated use that makes the difference. The upside is that you can do it whenever suits you. A session while you watch TV soon adds up.

How often should I use red light therapy?

Most at-home devices are designed for daily use, with sessions of around 10 to 20 minutes. Follow the guidance for your device, as times vary from one device to the next. Using it for longer than recommended won't get you results any faster.

How long does red light therapy take to work?

Give it a few weeks of regular use before you judge it. Many people notice a brighter, more even look first. Changes to fine lines take longer, often a couple of months.

Can red light therapy help with eczema or rosacea?

There's growing interest in light therapy for skin conditions, but the devices on this page are designed for cosmetic use, not to treat a medical condition. If you have a skin condition like eczema or rosacea, speak to your GP or dermatologist before you start. For everyday redness, our products for redness can help calm and soothe skin.

Is red light therapy safe?

It's generally considered safe for most people when you follow the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid looking directly into the LEDs and use any eye protection that comes with your device. If you're pregnant, have a medical condition or take medication that makes you sensitive to light, check with your GP first.
